‘Chiefs Our Biggest Test So Far’

Ahead of their midweek DStv Premiership game against Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker says this match will be their biggest test so far, and be a good gauge on what they can achieve this season.

Stellenbosch are unbeaten after eight games in the league, and have surprised many with their second-place league position. They have won four and drawn four, and are currently three points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

When asked by the club’s media department if Chiefs will be their biggest test so far this season, Barker replied in the affirmative.

“Yes, I do, I think for various reasons,” Barker said.

“I think, obviously, the quality of our opposition, they also have seemed to have turned a corner, so I’m sure the confidence and belief is high, with some of their high profile players starting to have an impact.

“You know, this is also our fifth away game in nine. So, that is also not easy, you know, to keep traveling.

“So ja, it is going to be a big test, but at the same time, we rather look at it as a big challenge.

“I think it will be a good indicator of where we have come as a team, and what we are capable of achieving.

“So I think it’ll be a good barometer for us to see where we are at.”
