It was a very competitive derby with yellow cards being flashed at both players and the bench, much to the ire of Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp, but at the break it was a deserved lead for Maritzburg.
It was 2-0 to Maritzburg in the 57th minute, as Thabiso Kutumela scored his 12th of the season, after a good one-two with Hlongwane.
Almost immediately though, Arrows pulled one back. Michael Gumede timing his run into the box perfectly to poke it in and make it 2-1.
