Chiefs Taking Baby Steps On Dolly

Kaizer Chiefs are taking their time on vice-captain Keagan Dolly to ensure that his injury doesn’t flare up again, warned coach Molefi Ntseki.

Dolly came on in the second half in the club’s last game before the international break where they lost to Cape Town City at FNB Stadium in the league game.

The former Bafana Bafana winger has been out after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL grade two which is not severe) in his knee against Sekhukhune United on 3 April last season at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Dolly left the field in tears on that day in Polokwane and it was clear something had happened to him although he was not taken off by the stretcher as he was able to walk off himself.

“I think it is a build-up,” said Ntseki when asked about Dolly as they host AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 at FNB Stadium on Saturday (18:00).

“We are fully aware that Keagan Dolly was out for about five months due to the ACL injury. The last game we gave him 30 minutes and I think it will be a build-up in terms of getting match fitness, getting more playing minutes and also having a very clear understanding of the team how we play.

“I think he is a professional, highly talented, highly experienced. I think we will see more of him overtime whenever he is available for selection.”

These two sides will be meeting in this competition for the first time in this stage since the 2017/18 season where Chiefs won 3-0 under Steve Komphela at the Calabash.

Interestingly, George Maluleka and Hendrick Ekstein, now at AmaZulu, scored and the other came from Sphiwe Tshabalala who also played for Usuthu.

Chiefs have already defeated Usuthu 3-0 at the very same venue in the league match in August.
