Kaizer Chiefs forward Mduduzi Shabalala reveals his hat-trick was inspired by the passing of his sister for whom he dedicated the achievement.
The Chiefs reserve team forward scored his treble in their 5-4 defeat to Royal AM which is something he holds special to his heart – despite being on the losing side.
Outside the spectrum of football are personal challenges for each individual and he admits it’s given him something to smile about during a period of mourning.
“It felt so great to score a hattrick. The goals came quick. We were losing and I was able to score the first goal, which I dedicate to my sister Thembi, who passed away two weeks ago. The second goal I scored, our third goal, brought us back into the game,” he told the club’s website.
“I was happy to be named Man of the Match and I am also pleased to be selected for the DStv Compact Cup, which means that I simply have to up my game.”
Shabalala is one of 16 Diski Challenge players who were voted into the DStv Compact Cup squads.
