Another Cape Town City midfielder is heading north for the rest of the DStv Premiership season.
Following Surprise Ralani’s sale to Mamelodi Sundowns, the Cape Town club are set to send Shane Roberts out on loan so that the midfielder can get more game-time.
Roberts, who is contracted to City until 2024, is set to join TS Galaxy until the end of the 2021/2022 season, where he will look to help Tim Sukazi’s club move off the bottom of the table.
Roberts will find a familiar face at Galaxy, with former City teammate Ebrahim Seedat now a regular at the club.
The highly-rated 23-year-old, and former captain of the Diski Challenge team, has only made five appearances off the bench this season, but since making his debut four seasons ago has racked up 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.
However while showing a lot of promise, Roberts has found it tough going in a squad that has competitive midfield options.
A source at the Mother City club confirmed the plan to send the former Hellenic youngster on loan, and he will not be the only City player sent out on loan to get more game time.
Zimbabwean striker Douglas Mapfumo, who also has only made five appearances this season, albeit two starts, will join GladAfrica Championship team Cape Town All Stars.
It will be Mapfumo’s second spell in the GladAfrica, having spent the 2020/2021 season at now defunct Cape Umoya United, where he scored two goals in 21 appearances.
Eric Tinkler’s squad are set to reassemble next week to prepare for the remainder of the league season and the Nedbank Cup.
