It was a positive start by Desiree Ellis’s team, who from the get go took control of the game, and showed their attacking intent, Gabriela Salgado testing Sedilame Bosija in the Botswana goal, in the opening minute. However it was to be the only shot on target for a while, because while Banyana were in control, they weren’t creating shooting opportunities.
Salgado’s long range attempt in the 25th minute was on target, but it was comfortably held by Bosija, while four minutes later Robyn Moodaly’s first time shot from inside the box was off target.
Salgado tried again in the 38th minute, but her shot toward the top right corner was saved by Bosija, while a minute later the Botswana goalkeeper was on hand to save Thembi Kgatlana’s header.
Despite Banyana’s dominance, at halftime it remained goalless.
Botswana’s best chance of the game came three minutes into the second half, as they were awarded a free kick just outside the box, but Refilwe Tholakele was unable to get the ball past the wall.
In the 51st minute Bosija made a good block to deny Kgatlana’s attempt from an acute angle from the right of goal, but a minute later the Eibar star was not to be denied, this time beating Bosija from a similar angle. 1-0
