Confirmed: Matlaba Leaves The Birds’ Nest

Thabo Matlaba is a free agent and free to join the club of his choice after being handed his clearance by Swallows over the weekend.

The news was confirmed to iDiski Times by Swallows’ chairperson David Mogashoa.

“Thabo was at training, yes, this morning, but he requested his clearance on Saturday,” Mogashoa told iDiski Times.

“But obviously because he’s a professional he had to go to training.

“But it’s finalised, he’s got his clearance. He was on his last six months.

“So it was either we give him his clearance or he signs a pre-contact with whoever, and then his mind is no longer at Swallows – so we gave him his clearance.”

Matlaba spent the past 18 months at Dobsonville after joining from Black Leopards, and featured 40 times in all competitions.

The 34-year-old first came to prominence at Free State Stars, before spending eight season at Orlando Pirates.

The Tembisa-born defender-come-midfielder also has 27 Bafana Bafana caps.
