Davids – How Bucs Stars Reacted To JZ Resignation
Fadlu Davids represented Orlando Pirates at the DStv Premiership launch and revealed how the club’s players reacted upon hearing that Josef Zinnbauer has left.
The Buccaneers are yet to make an official statement on who will succeed Zinnbauer after he tendered his resignation on Monday.
On Wednesday, long-term assistant Davids represented the club at the launch of the 2021/22 Premiership campaign.
“When a coach resigns it’s really disappointing. The club is shocked, the players were shocked,” he said.
“But it’s immediately setting that reset button and then looking forward. What stares us in the face is Stellenbosch and it’s really important we have a good start to the new season.”
Davids also gave an insight as to how the players reacted to hearing about Zinnbauer’s departure.
“A lot of players were close to the coach, he had a good relationship with them,” he added.
“So immediately when they had to take the news and get back onto the training field, it’s about making that switch, putting your emotions aside and looking forward to what we are working for.
“We know what we expect on Saturday and we know what we want to achieve this coming season. We’re fully focussed on that.
“We’ve got a capable squad, ready to push our targets and what we want to achieve this season.”
Davids himself has been at Pirates for the last two-and-a-half years as assistant coach, but has seen head coaches like Milutin Sredojevic, Rulani Mokwena and Josef Zinnbauer come and go.
