Davids On Pressure At Pirates
Fadlu Davids has opened up on the pressure the Orlando Pirates coaches were under before collecting their first win of the season.
Davids and Mandla Ncikazi have taken over on the sidelines after Josef Zinnbauer had resigned ahead of the first DStv Premiership game of the season.
However, the duo saw Pirates collect just two draws from their opening games before finally landing three points against Swallows FC.
“In every match you play, you have that pressure as a coach. We know that we needed the three points,” he said when asked by iDiski Times whether the victory has relieved him and Ncikazi of some pressure.
“But more importantly we needed a performance. It’s a process in terms of the point at where the squad is in.
“You lose a coach and you have to stabilise, you have to look at what was good in the past and what are the priorities to fix and improve upon.
“Yes, the goal came late but we knew in the second half that Swallows has a trend to bring on two new wingers and that opens up the game.
“It was just for us waiting to be able then to bring on our subs to be able to impact the game.”
Davids also admitted that the three points will give his side some momentum but they have to keep their feet on the ground.
“We’re in the process of trying to fix the team. Most important is the performance. If we can continue to perform this way, more fluidity in our attack, more shots at goal, more domination from start to finish,” he added.
“We are able to do it for a period of time, the type of football that we want to play. That is what we are zooming out and the bigger picture where we want to go.
“The result gives you that extra boost, that momentum to go into the next game. We take it, but we’re not getting carried away with the win.
“We were not getting too upset or concerned when we didn’t get the wins in the first two games because we’re looking at the bigger picture, we’re knowing the process. We’re keeping our feet on the ground and still look and see where we can improve in our next matches.”
Pirates will now face Chippa United on Saturday.
