Davids Praises New Bucs Signing
Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids has singled one of his side’s new signings out for praise after a great performance on debut, despite starting the game with two bad actions.
Davids along with Mandla Ncikazi took over the reigns at the Buccaneers after Josef Zinnbauer resigned ahead of the first DStv Premiership match of the season.
The duo collected their first win in charge of the Buccaneers, beating Swallows FC 1-0 on Saturday.
After the match, Davids praised new midfielder, Ntsako Makhubela, who made his debut for the club after joining from Golden Arrows during the transfer window.
“Never-die (attitude), he came into the team and fitted in so well with the group in terms of the cohesion with the players,” Davids said after the match.
“We know he’s able to play in different positions. He’s very key when we execute our high press when we don’t have the ball.
“Really smart in trying to find the spaces what the opponent left, whether that’s between the lines picking the ball up in a deeper position and then carrying to the final third.
“I’m really happy with his contribution, it’s never easy coming in. He started a bit slow with his first two actions but how he’s settled in it shows a strong character, to have no fear.
“Making your debut for Orlando Pirates, your first two actions not going well and then bouncing back to have such a performance.
“So credit to him, he has to keep his feet on the ground, it’s just one game and we expect so much more from him once he is really fit.
“He’s been nowhere in terms of his match fitness what his maximum was. He went a little bit over but we have an entire week to prepare for the next game.”
Pirates next game will be at Chippa United, next week Saturday.
