Deano Opens Up On Pirates Home Debut

Orlando Pirates defender Deano van Rooyen has described his home debut as a “great feeling” after they came from behind to register their first Betway Premiership victory of the season against Chippa United at Orlando Stadium.

Van Rooyen, who made his official debut for the Buccaneers against Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg in Botswana, put in a great shift for the Soweto giants as they left Gaborone as 2-0 victors.

The cherry on top for the former Stellies skipper was making his debut in front of Pirates supporters, with the 27-year-old expressing his delight at finally running out in front of the home fans.

“Firstly, I want to thank the man above for giving me the talent. I am happy to make my debut here at Orlando Stadium it was great feeling. We just can continue from here,” Van Rooyen told Pirates media after the match.

“If your mentality is right, you can achieve anything you want. Obviously, you must start with a win at home. It just boosts the confidence going forward to the next game and for the league going forward.

“[Supporters] played a big part in the game; I feel that they are the twelfth man in the field of play. They encourage us, I am happy for them to come in every week to the game.”

The former Stellies captain put in another great performance as Pirates cruised to a convincing 3-0 win on aggregate against Jwaneng Galaxy to book their spot in the CAF Champions League group stages in five years.
