Doc Shares Views On Mbule’s World Cup Chances

Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo believes a player like Sipho Mbule still has a chance at making Hugo Broos’ final FIFA World Cup squad.

Mbule is among the group of players who were at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Bafana but dropped for the two international friendlies against Panama later this week.

With the World Cup kicking off in America in June, many believe the Panama list gives a window into what the final squad may look like.

Mbule has also struggled to get game-time at his club, especially in the second round of the season with 10 league appearances but Broos did highlight how important he was for Bafana last year.

Khumalo said he understands where Broos is coming from in terms of his selection as the coach might still need convincing in certain areas.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder however says tricky as it may be, he does believe the ‘Master Chef’ still has a shot at going to the World Cup because he understands the team’s philosophy.

“He might get a chance,” said Khumalo on the DNA Podcast,

“Remember he was part of The AFCON. So it’s not difficult to call him because he understands the philosophy and the set-up.

“He was in Morocco at the AFCON. So players like that they might get a chance to be called in.”
