‘Downs Don’t Need Lorch, Chiefs Do’
After Thembinkosi Lorch has been linked with a transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns, it has been claimed Masandawana don’t need him but Kaizer Chiefs do.
The DStv Premiership winners are looking to strengthen their team for next season, with Slovakian striker Pavol Safranko already confirmed as new signing.
‘Nyoso’ is one of the players rumoured to interest Sundowns but former midfielder Charles Motlohi believes that the 2019 Premier League Footballer of the Season is not the right fight for Masandawana.
“No, I don’t think they need him. Thembinkosi Lorch and Oupa Manyisa play the same style of football,” Motlohi told KickOff.
“And I also count the age – if he was 16 or 17-years-old, I would recommend he be signed, but the problem is when you bring someone in who is only coming for pension.
“Lorch is good but not for Sundowns. I think a move to (Kaizer) Chiefs might suit him better because, honestly speaking, Chiefs don’t have players at the moment.
“Just imagine how many players are playing in his position at Sundowns in the current squad – the likes of (Hlompho) Kekana can’t even get game time.
“I trusted (Kermit) Erasmus to do well at Sundowns but he is forever injured. But as for Lorch, no, I don’t rate him that much to play for us.”
Lorch has missed large parts of 2020/21 due to a tear in the abductor muscle and has scored just one goal for Pirates in the Premiership so far.
The 27-year-old, though, will be keen to help his side defend third spot on the log when they face TTM on Saturday.
