Mamelodi Sundowns have revealed why Themba Zwane and Mosa Lebusa will miss today’s game against Chippa United before explaining why they switched goalkeepers for the clash.
The 32-year-old scored Downs’ only goal in their DStv Premiership opener against AmaZulu, but was not on the team sheet to face the Chilli Boys.
Downs co-head coach explained Manqoba Mngqithi said both players miss the game because of injuries.
“Unfortunate for Lebusa, he came out in the match against AmaZulu because he had a slight quadriceps injury,” Manqoba Mngqithi explained on SuperSport tv.
“We are hoping it’s not going to take him that long. Themba Zwane bombed out of training on match day minus two, with a slight knee-muscle injury, but it did not look like it’s something very serious.
“We just had to be cautious and had to be sure we don’t break them down completely.”
Mngqithi also explained why Denis Onyango returned to the goal, saying Kennedy Mweene missed parts of training due to a death in his family.
“Kennedy did very well in the absence of Onyango but unfortunately Kennedy had to go back to Zambia over the weekend to bury his niece, may her soul rest in peace.
“Then he came back on match day minus one and we felt, let’s bring Denis into the match, also knowing the possibilities of what Denis can bring to us but Kennedy has served us very well as well.”
