Free-scoring Mamelodi Sundowns starlet Bennett Mokoena closed in on Boitumelo Radiopane’s record after netting his 20th DStv Diski Challenge goal of the season in their 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants.
With just six matches left before the curtain comes down on the 2025/26 reserve the league, Mokoena needs to score five goals to go level with the Orlando Pirates striker’s record of 25 goals in a single season he tallied in 2021/22.
Mokoena recorded his 20th tally goal of the campaign in Saturday morning’s clash, finding the net in the 18th minute.
Oarabile Booysen rounded off the tie in the 78th minute to all but hand Masandawana maximum points and move them top of the log on 54 points, three clear of table-toppers Orlando Pirates, with the latter having two games in hand.
The Buccaneers know they cannot afford to drop points as they look to seal their maiden DDC title when they take on Orbit College on Sunday.
In the earlier fixture, Durban City dented Siwelele FC’s title chances after hammering them 3-1 with Onele, Sbu and Ximba doing the damage.
