Barker Says Stellies Must Stay Humble After Chiefs Win

After his team beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in the DStv Premiership, Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker says they need to keep working and remain humble.

It was a victory that saw the Western Cape team join league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on 19 points, however the league champions, who play on Wednesday, have games in hand.

Prior to the 1-0 win at the FNB Stadium, Barker had said that the Chiefs game would be a good barometer of where they were as a team, and when asked by iDiski Times about how it looks now, Barker said they’ve had a fantastic start.

“Ja, Rob, it’s looking good,” Barker said in the post match press conference.

“Obviously, we’ve had a fantastic start.

“We have as many wins in the league now that we had the whole of last season.

“To go now 13 games unbeaten, if you include the four from last season, we are in a good space, we’re in a good position.

“I always felt that after 9, 10 games, it would be a good barometer to see where we are as a team. “

So, you know, we are doing well. It’s important that we remain however humble and, continue to work hard and to continue just building our belief, building our confidence as as a team.”
