Baxter On Dube-Cardoso Change
Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has explained why he opted to make a change in his defence, picking Daniel Cardoso over Austin Dube in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC.
The Englishman saw his side go down to Steven Barker’s men thanks to a superb striker Ashley Du Preez in the first half.
But one of the talking points ahead of the game was Baxter’s selection to bring Cardoso back into the team after he had not started the previous three games.
The Amakhosi coach later insisted that it was a tactical decision to switch the two defenders based on what he had observed in training and recent matches.
“Everything is a tactical decision,” he said after the match when asked by iDiski Times about the Dube-Cardoso switch.
“You pick the best team for the game based on current form, based on experience, based on suitability to the team.
“I just felt that that was the right decision to take based on the fact the training that I’ve seen and the performances in the games.”
Chiefs now prepare for the Soweto derby against bitter rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday, having dropped behind the Buccaneers on the log.
