Baxter Reveals Details About Hlanti Injury, Talks Replacements

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has revealed how S’fiso Hlanti picked up his serious injury in practice and also addressed which players could come in as replacement in the Soweto derby.

Baxter had confirmed earlier on Thursday that Hlanti picked up a serious injury in training after rupturing his achilles, which will likely rule him out for five to six months.

His coach confirmed the incident happened in training, without the involvement of an opponent and just two minutes before the session was over.

“I feel so sorry for S’fiso. This morning we did a walk-through drill, we went into a handball drill and we went into 11 vs 11 for 15 minutes, just to put down some patterns and tactical things for the game,” Baxter told reporters.

“We had done everything, we’re in the last two minutes of the 15 minutes play, get a long cross for your pass, he was back paddling and he put his foot up behind him and I’m not joking everyone within 20 minutes heard it, like a pistol shot.

“He went off and when I came off the field they said (it’s) a total rupture, they could do that, where the achilles is, they could their fingers together.

“I’ve had the same operation, he’s not going to be back for maybe six months.”

Baxter, though, insisted that he has enough options to within his squad to replace Hlanti.

“(Sibusiso) Mabiliso, Reeve (Frosler), they should come in,” he added.

“Unless we go for three centre-backs. I mean they play three centre-backs at times, we play three centre-backs at times.

“If we go with three centre-backs, we could field field a wing-back with Happy Mashiane as a wing-back more than a full-back.

“Or we can with a back-four and then it will be a one-one-one replacement.”
