Baxter – We Bottled Chance To Enter Title Race

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has insisted his side missed a chance to enter the DStv Premiership title race after dropping points against AmaZulu.

Amakhosi were leading the game for large parts but conceded the equaliser in the second half after Cole Alexander had been sent off.

Chiefs missed the chance to move into third place on the log and cut their deficit on Mamelodi Sundowns, who dropped points against SuperSport United, to just six points, which annoyed Baxter.

“Some coaches might say the title is what we’re looking for and bla, bla, bla,” he told reporters.

“I was once told by a very wise guy ‘have your eyes on the pathway otherwise you’ve got one eye on the destination and you only got half of your strength to use in the here and the now’.

“My preference is to say we want performances, we want this win and then move on. I don’t look too far in the future. But I do that obviously for myself, I do my own little calculations.

“At this moment in time, to start talking about winning the league after a performance like tonight is not really realistic.

“You’ve got to improve that performance before you can say we’ve got a chance to win the league.

“(But) we threw away a chance tonight to put ourselves back into the race seriously. Hopefully we won’t do that again when the chance arises.”
