AmaZulu look set to announce the signing of Cape Town City defender Abbubaker Mobara in the coming days.
Mobara, 27, is set to re-unite with Benni McCarthy at Usuthu, after two-and-a-half seasons at City, iDiski Times has learned.
The former Ajax Cape Town player had joined City from Orlando Pirates in 2019, and featured 53 times for the Citizens in all competitions.
Having burst on the scenes as a teenager at Ajax, Mobara’s talent has never been questioned, and he was a star for the national U23 team at the Rio Olympics, where he famously marked Neymar.
However this past season, he has found himself starting fewer games, with Nathan Fasika and Taariq Fielies the preferred starting pair at centre-back.
With City and AmaZulu having reportedly agreed on a price, the Cape Town-born player is expected to do his medicals and wrap up the deal in Durban this week.
Sources at City have already revealed that Mobara has bid his farewells to his City teammates.
The versatile Mobara, who can play at centre-back, right-back or as a defensive midfielder, will be an excellent signing for McCarthy, especially ahead of the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
