BREAKING: PSL Announce Player & Coach Of The Month

The PSL has announced the winners of the DStv Premiership Player of the Month and Coach of the Month for April.

It was an incredibly competitive month in the South African top flight, with four clubs – Mamelodi Sundowns, Royal AM, Cape Town City and AmaZulu unbeaten during the period.

But it was Eric Tinkler who walked away with the honours for the Coach of the Month April, with City unbeaten in five games, winning three and drawing two. City have been unbeaten in the league throughout the whole calendar year so far.

The Citizens picked up good wins over Baroka, Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chiefs, while they drew with Royal AM and newly crowned champions Sundowns, the two teams above them in the league in April.

“Judges were hugely impressed by Tinkler’s resilience and resolve in grinding out results following a difficult time of losing up to four key senior players in the January transfer window. The Cape side was also able to hold their own and avoided defeat against some of the top sides in the league in April,” the PSL said in a statement.

“Tinkler came out tops ahead of the Sundowns coaching duo Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena as well as John Maduka of Royal AM, after votes from a panel of media and football experts. This was Tinkler’s fourth monthly award following his first back in 2017.”

Meanwhile, it came as no surprise that Masandawana striker Peter Shalulile picked up the Player of the Month accolade.

Shalulile became the first player in PSL history to score back-to-back hat-tricks in April, scoring three against both Swallows and Golden Arrows.

The Namibian striker, who has 22 goals in the league this season, only played in three games in April, but scoring six goals in those two fixtures sealed the judges’ votes.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs winger Keagan Dolly walked away with the Goal of the Month award, being recognised for his fine free-kick against Chippa United.

Judges: Julia Stuart (SuperSport), Arnold Rankoko (SuperSport), Ofhani Munyai (Far Post), Rob Delport (iDiski Times), Brian Mofokeng (SABC).
