Chiefs Remain Unhappy With PSL

Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has expressed his disappointment with the Premier Soccer League denying Amakhosi to postpone their games after a Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena.

The Glamour Boys suffered a serious Covid-19 outbreak at their training ground, with an overall number of 51 cases among the club’s players and staff testing positive.

They did ask the PSL to postpone their December fixtures after an initial number of 31 of the club’s personnel had tested positive.

However, the league did initially not respond, seeing Cape Town City and Golden Arrows pitch to their games without opponents.

Even though Chiefs did return to playing, the club stated they were taken aback by the PSL’s decision to not allow the postponement of their fixtures and also stated they will appeal the league’s ruling on the matter.

Chairman Kaizer Motaung has once again addressed the club’s disappointment in a statement, summing up the year 2021.

“Our recent experience that saw us not allowed to postpone matches after the Covid-19 attack has still left us dumbfounded,” he wrote.

“This has also brought a lot of attention on the running of the league and we have to ensure that we do not let this situation tarnish the good image of the organisation.

“We do hope sanity and rationality will prevail at the end of the day and the PSL continues to be an example to many leagues in the world.

“We also need to learn from the examples of other top leagues in the world.”

Meanwhile, several games in particular in the English Premier League have since been postponed for similar Covid outbreaks at English clubs.
