Cape Town City have given an opportunity to another player who has been playing lower league football in Cape Town recently.
The club have signed Mogamat May, who had most recently been playing for lower league side Hanover Park.
May is a former Ajax Cape Town youth player who can play in the midfield and upfront, who was actually promoted to Ajax’s first team in 2016 when the club was still in the top flight, and at the same time that Grant Margeman, who is now at Swallows, was also promoted.
However he didn’t play any games for the Urban Warriors’ first team, and was released two seasons later.
A brief spell at The Magic in the ABC Motsepe leagues followed, before he joined Steenberg United where he made his professional debut in the GladAfrica Championship.
However this past season he had returned to the lower leagues with Hanover Park, before being given an opportunity at City.
After training with Eric Tinkler’s team since the beginning the year, May has impressed enough to earn a contract with the Citizens for the remainder of the 2021/2022 season.
Having already sold Surprise Ralani to Mamelodi Sundowns, City parted ways with Abbubaker Mobara this week as he was bought by AmaZulu, while there is speculation that the club could consider selling Fagrie Lakay to a foreign suitor. The club have also sent players like Shane Roberts, Douglas Mapfumo and Marc Anderson out on loan.
May told Capeat6sport writer Joshua Hendricks that he was pleased to get this chance in the top flight again.
“I’m ecstatic, over the moon. No words can describe how grateful I am for Metamorphosize Personal Training and the coaching staff at Hanover Park FC,” May was quoted as saying by Capeat6sport.
“Also Cape Town City FC for believing in me and giving me this life-changing opportunity.
“This, to me, is another shot at life. An opportunity to better myself both as a player and as an individual.”
