CT City vs Maritzburg Also Overshadowed By Drama?
Today’s game between Cape Town City and Maritzburg United is also overshadowed by drama after the Citizens’ player cards were allegedly stolen.
The Premier Soccer League has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons after Kaizer Chiefs’ match against City did not take place due to Amakhosi not honouring the fixture following a Covid-19 outbreak.
In the meantime, PSL prosecutor Nande Becker also resigned from his role, while further names from the PSL board reportedly also quit.
This evening, it emerged that City had their player cards stolen out of the car of the team manager, as first reported by The Sowetan.
“Team manager Moenier Davids, his car is alleged to have been broken into and in the process the cards of the players have been stolen just before kick off,” iDiski Times journalist Velile Mnyandu reported on SAFM.
“You know the match commissioner just before the game he goes through the cards and he would have to identify the players are matching with the cards.
“It looks like there was an issue there and Maritzburg want to play under protest, but as you know you cannot play the game without the cards, so City didn’t want to play.”
The game has since kicked off in Cape Town, with commentator Mark Gleeson confirming that Maritzburg are playing under protest.
Below are the confirmed line-ups of both teams:
City XI: Marques, Idumba Fasika, Makola, Mdantsane, Fielies, Mashego, Morris, Mokeke, Lakay, Nodada, Martin
Maritzburg XI: Engelhardt, Claasen, Ndengane, Ritchie, Human, Ntshangase, Rae, Graham, Kewuti, Hlongwane and Theron.
