Davids Defends Tyson’s Mistake

Orlando Pirates co-caretaker coach Fadlu Davids has defended captain Thulani Hlatshwayo after his costly mistake in the Soweto Derby.

‘Tyson’ made an error that allowed Khama Billiat to catch the ball and assist Keagan Dolly to score the opener in his Soweto Derby debut.

Davids’, though, insisted that he won’t single out his stand-in captain as other players in the team also made mistake by not converting their chances.

“No, you can’t point out Hlatshwayo because we had to score, we had to be two to zero up maybe in the first half, it’s been (the same) in the Royal AM match as well, a miscommunication we gave them a gift in the last minutes as well,” he told reporters.

“So yeah, it’s not really conceding shots at goal, our goalkeeper doesn’t have to make a lot of saves in our last matches. So really, we are really dominant when we have the ball, not really allowing opponents to get into our half.

“So you can’t blame one player, it’s a team effort, it’s a team structure. We’re doing very well defensively, but these mistakes are giving opponents silly goals.

“Yes, there’s definitely something in terms of, and it’s not a quality thing, it’s a thinking problem, we’re just switching off, just losing concentration, but that’s one thing we have to work on moving forward.”

The Buccaneers lost 2-1 to rivals Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday and moved down to the seventh spot in the table.
