Lesedi Kapinga scored a beauty as Dinaledi beat Amabutho 1-0 in the third/fourth place playoff at the inaugural DStv Compact Cup.
Dinaledi grabbed an early lead when Lesedi Kapinga was given time and space to unleash a wonderful long distance shot that left Sifiso Mlungwana with no chance. 1-0 in the fourth minute.
Thapelo Xoki couldn’t get his header on target in the ninth minute, while Gaston Sirino forced a good save from Mlungwana two minutes later, as the action swung from end-to-end.
Sirino shot just wide in the 32nd minute, but after a frantic start, chances became fewer and at half-time Dinaledi remained 1-0 up.
Ten minutes into the second half Sirino was at it again with another good shot, but again Mlungwana was able to deny the Uruguayan.
It was an open second half, but the teams let themselves down in the final third. Victor Letsoalo, however went close for Amabutho in the 80th minute, but his shot from the edge of the area was just off target.
Amabutho thought they had penalty in the 90th minute for a foul by Reyaad Pieterse, but Akhona Makalima waved played on. A deflected effort in stoppage time almost caused problems for Dinadeni but George Chigova, who had just come on, made the save.
The last shot of the game fell to Kermit Erasmus, but his powerful shot was well saved by Mlungwana, and at the final whistle Kapinga’s early strike was enough for Dan Malesela’s team to take the win.
The final between Coastal United and Warriors will be played at 3pm this afternoon.
