Dolly On Blooming Billiat Partnership

Kaizer Chiefs winger Keagan Dolly says his telepathic relationship with Khama Billiat is something that started during their days at the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town.

Dolly and Billiat first played alongside each other at Ajax during the 2012/13 season before the Zimbabwe international moved on to Mamelodi Sundowns – where he emerged as one of the finest talents in Africa.

They linked up once again at Masandawana between 2014 and 2017 under Pitso Mosimane where they went on to dominate the domestic scene while also winning the CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup.

While Dolly went on to join Ligue 1 side Montpellier, Billiat remained at the club and upon the expiry of his contract the following year – he surprisingly joined Kaizer Chiefs, where he’s yet to win a trophy in three years while his form has often been subject to scrutiny in an inconsistent Amakhosi side.

But since Dolly’s arrival, the Zimbabwe talisman appears reinvigorated as he already bettered his 2020/21 tally of two goals by scoring three, with two assists in his first nine games.

“I can’t explain the relationship myself and Khama has. I think it started at Ajax Cape Town, from the first day he was there already,” he said ahead of the Soweto Derby.

“We just clicked and since then you can see he understands what I’m going to do on the ball – I understand where he’s going to run and it’s just something we’ve built off the field.

“We’re very close and it’s not something we plan. But when we play, it just works.”

The dynamic duo will be aiming to help Chiefs up the table when they face off against Orlando Pirates on Saturday at FNB Stadium (15h30).
