Ethiopia international forward Abubeker Nassir is set to undergo a trial with Mamelodi Sundowns this week.

Straight after representing his country at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the 21-year-old who’s been linked with Kaizer Chiefs in recent months has been invited for an assessment with the DStv Premiership champions.

iDiski Times understands the player is currently travelling to Tshwane, where he will be provided accommodation before his one week trial period.

With under seven days remaining in the current transfer window, it’s unclear whether there are any intentions for the club to make an immediate move for the mercurial talent.

Added to that, the arrival of Bolivia international Erwin Saavedra will occupy their final foreign quota spot, leaving no room for another registration – should they look to acquire Nassir.

The Ethiopian Coffee star caught the eyes of many at the AFCON despite their early exit where they were in Group A with hosts Cameroon, Cape Verde and Burkina Faso.

His rise to prominence has been highly publicised in East Africa, having scored 29 in 23 games in the BetKing Ethiopian Premier League.

Since making his senior international debut in November 2019, Nassir has amassed 17 caps, scoring four times.
