Khanye Questions Pirates Coaching Situation
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye has questioned the coaching situation at Orlando Pirates, saying he doesn’t think the duo of Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids works well.
The two tacticians took over as a co-caretaker coaches after the departure of Josef Zinnbauer before the first DStv Premiership game.
At this stage, the Buccaneers haven’t hired a new coach, keeping the two as co-caretakers, however, Khanye says the club should consider to find a new coach in order to succeed.
“People are asking me if I am backing Mandla Ncikazi to be a long-term Pirates coach,” Khanye wrote in his iDiski Times column.
“The reality is that Pirates, for the first time, played with a sense of style against Royal AM last week. They looked like a team that had some identity.
“I complimented Mandla Ncikazi because that is how his Golden Arrows played last season, they pass the ball around, are unpredictable, and they emphasize movement off the ball.
“I was happy with what I saw in that game (against Sekhukhune United). Does that mean I want Mandla to coach Pirates full time?
“Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids are currently co-assistant coaches at the club. Assistant coaches to whom? Let me start by addressing Fadlu once again.
“I played with him at Maritzburg United. He is a nice guy personally, but like I have said before, he has had his chance under Josef Zinnbauer.
“If you look at the recent players recruited by Pirates, you can clearly see that Fadlu had a hand in that. Fortune Makaringe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Richard Ofori are all players who played under Fadlu at Maritzburg, and they have always been given a chance at Pirates.”
The football analyst went on to suggest that Pirates should get former TS Galaxy coach Dan Malesela or Cavin Johnson to take over as coaches.
“I would either ask Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela to be a co-coach with Mandla Ncikazi, just like the co-coaches at Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said.
“Alternatively, I would ask Mandla to be an assistant coach to a guy like Cavin Johnson. Cavin has accumulated enough experience to be able to lead a team like Pirates.”
