Lakay Says MTN8 Champs Are Now Focussed On Maritzburg
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Lyle Lakay says they have already put their MTN8 trophy victory behind them, as they focus on Wednesday’s DStv Premiership clash against Maritzburg United.
The log leaders beat Cape Town City in a penalty shootout in the MTN8 final on Saturday, but now will return their focus to the DStv Premiership.
Lakay says they have already put the celebrations behind them, and turned their focus to Maritzburg.
“Ja, obviously we won the MTN8, but I think we have to forget about that now, we forgot about it the day after already because we knew we had a game coming on Wednesday against Maritzburg,” Lakay told the club’s media department.
“Also the coach emphasised on it, after the game in the hotel, the coach said we shouldn’t forget it that we’ve got a game on Wednesday.
“But as professionals, the coach doesn’t have to tell us, as professionals we should know that and prepare properly.
“We had our moments where we got to celebrate, we have to be professional and like I said focus on the next game as it’s so close to the final, we played on Saturday and this next game is now on Wednesday.
“And having said that I think the the guys are focused, we still hungry, like we said we want to win every trophy that’s at hand. So nothing has changed, the mandate is still the same, we fully focused and we ready to fight for the three points.
“Ja, I would say they’re on either one the last game against TS Galaxy. So ja, I would expect them to come out, obviously they want to win and they haven’t played since the TS Galaxy game, they got a couple of days off so I think they will be fresher than us, but having said that like I said we’re professional enough so we’re capable of getting the three points.
“We want the three points and we’re going to do everything to get it. I think I saw, when I watched the replay, their coach was there at the final to watch the game so obviously he did his homework.
“But ja, we also did our homework like we do before every game and I think we’re ready.”
