Veteran full-back Vuyo Mere has confirmed that he’s left Swallows FC with immediate effect after two and half years with the DStv Premiership outfit.
Mere, 37, wrote another impressive chapter in his glittering PSL career – that dates back to 2004 when he started his professional career with Hellenic – by helping the Dube Birds win promotion to the top-flight.
Since their return in 2020, he’s racked up 51 appearances for the club but after falling down the pecking order this season, Mere has opted to seek greener pastures.
“It’s been a great journey at the nest. Two and a half great years I spent at the club. I just want to thank the players, management, staff and all the loyal Swallows FC fans for the wonderful reception, it really means a lot to me,” he wrote upon confirming his exit on social media.
“It’s sad to leave the team I gave my heart to in this manner, but that’s life. Nobody owes you anything in life. I wish the team everything of the best and thank God for the opportunity to don the famous maroon and white.
“To all the Vuyo Mere fans and supporters, the journey doesn’t end here. God has given me a big heart and I will not retire anytime soon. I love y’all and see you soon.”
