TS Galaxy new recruit Vuyo Mere has revealed why he joined the club after his exit from DStv Premiership rivals Swallows.

The 37-year-old, who has been one of Mzansi’s great right-backs in the beautiful game for two decades, has joined the Rockets on a 18-month contract last week.

Mere, says he was asking to train with the team to keep fit, but the chairman was already interested in bringing someone of his caliber to the team.

“After I was served with a dismissal letter at Swallows, I just made a call to him (Tim Sukazi) and I asked him if I can just train with his team while I’m still looking for a job,” Mere said on SportsNightLive.

“So he just told me that ‘Vuyo, drive up to Joburg, let’s meet, there are few things that I need to show you’. And he sat me down and showed me what TS Galaxy is all about.

“Many people don’t know, and they don’t get to see the team. TS Galaxy is an institution, it’s not only a football club, there’s a lot of things that Mr Sukazi is doing.

“And I got interested when he showed me those things because TS Galaxy is helping people in Mpumalanga, they’re sending kids to school, it’s not only about football.

“They’re helping many people now, and I got interested in that, and I asked him, ‘Mr. Chair, can I be part of this’, and he was like ‘you couldn’t have asked at the right time. So now we need people like you in the team’.

“He made me feel good about myself again, he made me feel wanted again when other people see me as a person on a wheelchair, he just sees a youngster that just came out of an academy, a 17-year-old Vuyo.

“He told me that ‘you still have it, and many youngsters can benefit from your experience’, so I never looked back there, I just signed on the dotted line.”
