Official: AmaZulu Confirm Benni Exit

As reported by iDiski Times earlier, AmaZulu have now confirmed that they’ve parted way with head coach Benni McCarthy.

The 44-year-old took over the reigns at the club in December 2020 when they were in 13th spot on the log, leading Usuthu to an unprecedented second place.

He was named Coach of the Season for his exploits with the Durban-based outfit and lead the club into their first ever CAF Champions League campaign.

After knocking out five-time champions TP Mazembe in the preliminary round, AmaZulu even qualified for the group stages but that’s where their journey ended after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Raja Casablanca.

In the DStv Premiership, AmaZulu currently only sit in ninth position, having collected 14 draws this season.

McCarthy had continuously been vocal about the club’s lack of depth, insisting the squad lacks quality to compete on the continent and in the domestic competitions, however, his departure comes as a surprise.

“AmaZulu FC and Benni McCarthy have mutually agreed to terminate their relationship with immediate effect,” reads a club statement.

“The club would like to thank coach Benni for his time with AmaZulu and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.

“In the interim, the club will continue to fight to the end of the season in the top 4 of the league.

“The president and the club will make further announcement about this issue in due course.”

Overall, McCarthy was in charge of 59 games, winning 23, drawing 22 and losing 14.
