Official: Maritzburg and Hachi Part Ways

January 10, 2022

Maritzburg United and Fares Hachi have parted ways via mutual consent after the Algerian fell out of favour with the club.

Hachi, 32, joined United from French outfit SC Lyon in October 2020 under then-head coach Eric Tinkler for his third stint in South African football after Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United.

But the left-back who won the CAF Champions League with ES Setif saw his game-time limited under Ernst Middendorp before the German informed management that the player was no longer part of his plans.

With just six months left on his current contract, Hachi and United agreed on a settlement to terminate the remainder of his deal in order for the player to find regular first-team football.

This website understands there has been contact from AmaZulu and a few clubs in his homeland of Algeria but Hachi is biding his time before he makes his next move.

Having been lured to South Africa by Pitso Mosimane four years ago, the player is said to be keen on remaining in Mzansi with his family now settled in Southern Africa.

Hachi has amassed 40 appearances in the South African top-flight for Sundowns, Chippa and the Team of Choice respectively since his arrival in January 2018 with Masandawana.
