The Top Scorers in the DStv Premiership

Kaizer Chiefs star Keagan Dolly says he has nothing to prove to anyone as he keeps pace for the 2021/22 Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award.

Dolly netted a brace in the 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates as he celebrated his Soweto Derby debut in emphatic fashion that took him to five goals in his last five league games – after not scoring in his opening five.

But he says his early season form has nothing to do with having to prove himself again, after a difficult four-year spell in Ligue 1 with Montpellier yielded only one league goal.

“No, I came back wanting to enjoy football again. We all know in France I didn’t get to play as much. I picked up a few injuries and it was something new for me,” he told the media.

“Since I started playing football I never had major setbacks and injuries that kept me out for longer than a week and that happened in France.”

Dolly stated that it was a ‘learning curve’ for him to return a ‘better and more experienced’ player and he’s relishing to be the Keagan Dolly that starred for Mamelodi Sundowns before his overseas switch.

“I learnt a lot from the players and all the situations and experiences that I went through – I feel I’ve grown and you can see the way I play, my final decision making, it shows,” Dolly explained.

“I didn’t come back to prove anything or show anyone, I came back to be the Keagan Dolly that everyone knows and that I know myself I can be. I just want to be the best version I can be for myself and I’m proving that.”

Despite his impressive form, Royal AM striker Victor Letsoalo and Peter Shalulile remain the favourites for the honour.

Shalulile in particular has shown signs that he may retain his crown as the league’s most prolific finisher as his brace in the 4-0 rout against Marumo Gallants took him to eight for the season.

His rate of a goal every 97 minutes in the DStv Premiership is unrivalled but the likes of Thamsanqa Gabuza (SuperSport United) and Chibuike Ohizu (Sekhukhune United) will look to challenge the Namibia hitman as it appears individual titles in the league will be all to play for as Sundowns maintain their dominance once more.

  1. Peter Shalulile – Mamelodi Sundowns – 8 goals in 9 games
  2. Victor Letsoalo – Royal AM – 6 goals in 8 games
