Eymael In, Seema Out

Chippa United have appointed Luc Eymael to replace Lehlohonolo Seema as their Head Coach for the remainder of the season.

Eymael, a controversial figure, was recently involved in a public furore in Tanzania after he made discriminatory comments about the country. At the time it was reported that SAFA wanted to ban the former Free State Stars and Polokwane City coach.

Eymael is the fourth coach Chippa has had in 2020 (after Norman Mapeza, Rulani Mokwena and Seema) and their 23rd overall.

It had been reported that yesterday Seema was suspended by chairman Chippa Mpengesi, pending a meeting to discuss his future, and the outcome was that Seema would no longer continue.

The former Lesotho International took over the Chippa job towards the end of last season, having previously been in charge alongside John Maduka at Bloemfontein Celtic.

While at first it looked like Seema could break the routine of Chippa’s constant coach changing, a poor run this season has seen Seema join the long list of coaches with the ‘former Chippa United coach’ title.

Chippa are currently 14th, with one win in eight games.

“Our ambition was to have an improved season in comparison to how the team has been fighting relegation in the past few campaigns. One of Mr Eymael responsibilities is a top eight finish for this season,” Mpengesi said in a statement from the club.

“This where the Club Board can also decide on his longer term contract with the team.”

“We would like to wish Mr Seema well with his future endeavours, and thank him for his contribution towards the Chippa United brand.”
