Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine De Reuck has had a strong start to the season, finding the back of the net in back-to-back games for Simba SC.
He netted a second goal for the Tanzanian giants as they thumped Namungo 3-0 in the league match on Wednesday. His superb performance also earned the him the Man of the Match award.
The goal means De Reuck has now scored in back-to-back league matches, having previously found the net when Simba downed Fountain Gate 3-0.
Speaking after the match, De Reuck attributed his current strong form to the hard work and preparation he has put since joining the team.
“The secret is hard work, I’m very focused and want to help the team,” De Reuck told the club’s media department.
“I know that this club has a lot of potential and if I want to be part of it, it’s gonna take a lot of hard work and a lot of focus from me.
“And that’s what I’m trying to do in this moment and so far so good. I know that with time it will get better. I’ve only been here for two months and it’s gonna take time.”
De Reuck currently sits as the league’s joint top goal scorer with two goals, a total shared with his Simba teammate Charles Ahoua and Azam FC’s Feisal Salum.
“When I came here and you tell me that I’d be a top scorer after two games, I wouldn’t believe that,” he added.
“It’s important that we played well in the beginning of the game, we needed a set-piece and we scored from two today again. Very, very happy with teammates, we kept a clean-sheets.
“The Man of the Match could have gone to anyone, many players did well. But they chose me, I’m very happy and proud.”
