Marumo Gallants have landed an exciting talent in forward Riyaaz Nell, according to Santos head coach Rodger Fortune.
Nell became their first signing ahead of the 2022/23 campaign where they will be competing in the CAF Confederation Cup while looking to build on the incredible season they enjoyed under coach Dan Malesela.

Having retained their top-flight status and finished as Nedbank Cup runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns, it was in their historic run that they were seemingly alerted to the former Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits academy player.
Nell, 23, also spent time on trial at Turkish Superlig giants Galatasaray back in May 2017 before his moves to the Bid Boys and Pirates juniors – where he was eventually in 2019 from the latter before returning to Cape Town.
“It’s a dream come true for him, obviously the game against Gallants in the last-32 when we played against them he had a very good game, one or two chances but they could see his strengths, his off the ball movement and what he is capable of doing,” Fortune tells iDiski Times.
“With the right guidance and development he will be one to look at, it’s still a lot of hard work ahead to prove himself but I think he will prove his doubters wrong and make his parents proud. I’m sure he will do us all proud in Cape Town from the Santos family.”
“His move came along with one of their technical advisors came to me after the game and just asked more or less more about him, after that, they gave us a call about a month or so ago, just to hear about… if the league is done or so.
“I think they took it from there and they invited him to Limpopo, he’s signed now, I think he’s their first signing for next season and I’m sure he’ll show the talent he has.”
