Gallants Take Down Galaxy

Marumo Gallants picked up just their second win of the DStv Premiership season, as they comfortably beat a ten-man TS Galaxy 3-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

With head coach Dan Malesela still out following a positive Covid test, Raymond Mdaka led the Gallants team once again.

Marumo Gallants 3-1 TS Galaxy

It was a positive start from Gallants, who had some early, but wayward, chances. Lehlohonolo Nonyane shot over in the 6th minute, while Joseph Molangoane went wide two minutes later.

Ebrahim Seedat’s opportunity for the visitors in the 14th minute was also off target, while Igor Makitan’s effort two minutes later was straight at Washington Arubi.

Galaxy were dealt a blow in the 20th minute when Makitan received a straight red card for a professional foul on Lerato Lamola.

Gallants began to take control and there were chance for Katlego Otladisa and Lamola, but neither could find the target.

However Nonyane made it 1-0 in the 33rd minute, heading in at the near post from Joseph Molangoane’s free kick.

It was 2-0 in the 39th minute, Sibusiso Kumalo tapping in Lebohang Mabotja’s low cross from close range. Molangoane once again involved in the build-up.

A strong advantage for Gallants at the break, leading by two goals, and with a man advantage.

Sead Ramović rung the changes at the break, hoping to get back into the game, and having just come on Wayde Lekay had a chance in the 49th minute, but his shot went over the goal.

But Gallants began to take control again, and Letsie Koapeng went close in the 66th minute but instead his shot brushed the crossbar and went over. Otladisa shot over in the 70th minute, while Vasilije Kolak saved from Lamola moments later.

With about ten minutes to go Lekay had two chances for Galaxy in succession, but both were off target.

And the match was wrapped up by Gallants moments later, as Letsie Koapeng added the third in the 84th minute.

Lekay did get on the scoresheet, scoring a fine consolation goal with the last move of the game.

Gallants move up to 12th position, while Galaxy drop to 14th.

Gallants will now prepare for their fixture on the weekend against DRC giants TP Mazembe, in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoff round. They trail 1-0 after the first leg.
