All sixteen Glad Africa Championship teams are set to be in action this weekend, as the South African second tier competition resumes.
With the league having only started at the end of November, it is going to be a fixture-heavy first half of 2021 for the Glad Africa teams.
And there have already been a few changes in technical teams in the league, despite the season barely being a month old.
Most recently Allan Freese, who only left his assistant role at AmaZulu a week ago, has been appointed as Head Coach of Free State Stars. He replaces Themba Sithole, the Ea Lla Koto veteran, who has often been tasked to be the caretaker coach. Sithole is certain to remain in the club’s structures, having been involved at the club for three decades. Stars are bottom of the table, having lost three and drawn two of their five games so far.
Mike Lukhubeni was the first coach to be relieved of his duties this season, as he was sacked by Royal AM. Floyd Mogale is currently leading the 11-placed team team.
There is also concerns at Cape Town Spurs (formerly Ajax) who are 15th and win-less after five games, and questions are already being asked about Vladislav Heric’s suitability for the job. Spurs were expected to be challenging at the top of the table, after narrowly missing out on promotion last season as Ajax.
Former Ajax coach Roger De Sa’s return to the coaching bench has been a successful one so far, and his Cape United team are currently top of the table, one point ahead of AmaTuks (coached by former Tuks Varsity man Tlisane Motaung) .
Johnny Ferreira and Sekhukhune United, Jomo Sono and Jomo Cosmos, and Polokwane City (coached by MacDonald Makhubedu) are a further point behind.
Dylan Deane’s Cape Town All Stars, Simo Dladla and Richards Bay, and Uthongathi, led by Pitso Dladla, are all three points off the leaders.
Three teams remain unbeaten – Polokwane, All Stars, and newly promoted Pretoria Callies, who are 10th.
