GladAfrica Championship Round-Up

Richards Bay remain top of the GladAfrica Championship after the weekend’s round of fixtures in the South African second tier.

On Friday Allan Freese’s Cape Town All Stars got a good 3-0 win over Venda Football Academy. Ndiviwe Mdabuka scored a brace, with Ryan Baartman also on the scoresheet.

On Saturday Tebogo Mabula scored a late winner for JDR Stars, as they beat Jomo Cosmos 3-2. It was an important for Nnditsheni Nemasisi’s team, as they kept the pace with the log leaders, who also ended Cosmos’s run of consecutive victories.

There was also a good 2-0 away for Free State Stars over TS Sporting, but the other two games on the day, Hungry Lions versus Cape Town Spurs and Black Leopards versus Uthongathi, ended in goalless draws.

On Sunday Siyabonga Vilane scored a second half goal in a 1-0 away win for Richards Bay against Tshakhuma, to maintain their lead at the top of the league.

AmaTuks and Polokwane City played out to a 2-2 draw, both teams missing an opportunity to keep up with the leaders, while there was 2-1 away win for Platinum City Rovers over struggling Pretoria Callies.

All the GladAfrica teams now turn their focus to this week’s mid-week Nedbank Cup qualifying round.
