Masutha – Why I Returned To Black Leopards
Joel Masutha has explained why he returned to his former club Black Leopards just days after leaving Pretoria Callies.
Masutha had stints with Chippa United, Maccabi, Real Kings and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila since his last spell at Leopards and insisted he didn’t even think twice about returning to the dugout.
“Firstly, I was jobless and, you know, football being our lives, you have to get back as soon as possible,” he said.
“When I got the call from Black Leopards, I didn’t even need to think twice.
“You have the quality of the players, I know the ambition of the team and I know what we can do together from the management up to even the supporters, not talking about the technical team and players.
“Combined I think this team is very strong and we can do something.”
Despite previously leaving Leopards, Masutha insisted that he’s always had a great relationship with the club and chairman David Thidiela, which made it easier for him to ‘come home’.
“In football, you don’t hold grudges, you don’t dwell on the past,” he added. “The main thing is, I grew up at Black Leopards, the chairman is like a father to me.
“Even when we parted ways, there was no bitterness amongst myself and the board and the chairman.
“When I got a call from him, it was very easy. Even when I was not around, I mean with Black Leopards, we used to talk and I used to visit him, just to check on him.
“So for me, it’s just feeling good to be back home.”
Masutha finds Leopards in 15th spot on the GladAfrica Championship table with 13 points from 14 games.
