Lucky Maselesele’s grandfather Gerson Rasetlho has set the record straight on the horrible killing of the former Kaizer Chiefs player, saying he was killed by thugs and not in an act of mob-justice.
Maselesele sadly passed away last week, with initial reports stating he was killed in an act of mob-justice after allegedly stealing cables.
However, his grandfather Rasethlo has come out to refute those claims, saying his murderers used the story as a cover-up.
“As a family, we are disputing that,” he told Thomas Mlambo on the Ultimate Sport Show.
“As far as we know, as far as the family’s position, he was killed and even today as we speak, there is no evidence of the things you are talking about, where he was killed because of cables or whatever.
“Let somebody bring them forth, there is no such a thing, there is no evidence.
“Those people that killed him were trying to cover up, but fortunately there were neighbours who alerted the police and that is how they were apprehended because they were immediately apprehended at the scene of the crime.
“Because when they were caught by the police they said he was stealing the cables and unfortunately this is what the media got what got from the police somehow, but the police got it wrong.
“Remember, when the police find an unknown person, they will do whatever statement until it’s rectified by the family or by further evidence.”
Maselesele’s grandfather also gave some insight on the inhuman act by his murderers, who used a dog to “finish him off”.
“What we know is it is not the community, the community is not four people,” he added.
“People that killed him were four and apparently these four left and two from the four came back with a dog, a vicious dog, so they should come and finish him off.
“It was thugs, not the community.”
Maselesele featured 44 times for Kaizer Chiefs between 1999 and 2003 and iDiski Times would once again like to send our condolences to his family and friends.
