SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler says they will take confidence from their match against Mamelodi Sundowns going into Sunday’s DStv Premiership match against Sekhukhune United.
SuperSport’s last match was the 2-2 draw against Sundowns, where they became the first team to score goals against the log leaders in the league this season.
Grobler says there are a lot of positives they can take from that performance.
“I think there’s a lot of positives you can take from the Sundowns game,” Grobler told the club’s media department.
“First half was a bit difficult, but I think the team did extremely well to fight back. I mean we know what kind of quality Sundowns have got, and they hadn’t conceded a goal in 10 games or something.
“So, for us to go out there put out that second half performance, I think guys like Jamie who came in did extremely well. So I think there are a lot of positives we can take to the weekend’s game.”
SuperSport are currently sixth, but are in touching distance of a top three spot, with a game in hand over some of those ahead of them. Grobler says they’ve been part of the top pack at this point the past few seasons, but he hopes they can now push forward.
“Ja, I think from the team’s point of view, I think, again, like the last couple of years, we’ve got off to a good start, I think at the moment, with one or two wins, we’ll be up within the top three, and that’s where we’ve been the last couple of years come this time of the year,” he added.
“So, we know the quality we’ve got,and now it’s just to get our minds right, and to keep that going into the second half of the season.
“Obviously, December’s big for us to get points, and then just to carry that through and finish on a high, not just kind of fade away like we have. So I think that’s a big focus of the team and the club at the moment.”
First up is there match on Sunday against Sekhukhune, who are one point ahead of SuperSport in fifth spot.
“Ja, I think we’ve been preparing the same as we always do, we focus a lot on ourselves and obviously we’re still building on the Sundowns performance and where we can be better,” he continued.
“But I think it’s a team that’s done extremely well, a team that’s got some good players some hard players and ja, I think we’ve got to give them credit for where they sit in the league ,the points have picked up, and we don’t want to disrespect them.
“They’ve got a lot of good players, players that we know, we’ve played against before, and ja, I think we just got to go focus on ourselves and I think on the day it’s gonna come down to whoever wants it more and works harder.”
