Groups Drawn For Tokyo Olympics
David Notoane and the South African national under-23 side learnt who their group opponents will be, after the draw for the Tokyo Olympic Games’ football tournament took place this morning.
South Africa have been drawn in a tough Group alongside hosts Japan, Mexico and France, with Japan facing South Africa in the opening game.
It is now less than three months until the Olympics, which was postponed from last year to this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The draw took place in Zurich, rather than in Tokyo for this reason too.
Football will begin the Olympics, and the tournament will kick off on the 21st of July.
This is the second Olympics in Tokyo, who last hosted in 1964.
Group A: Japan, South Africa, Mexico, France
Group B: New Zealand, Korea Republic, Honduras, Romania
