Hlungwani’s Verdict On Miguel’s Neck-Grab On Nkota & Chiefs Penalty

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani says Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Inacio Miguel was correctly given a yellow card for his neck-grab on Mohau Nkota, and that Amakhosi were also correctly awarded a penalty.

A section of the Bucs supporters felt that the Angolan international should’ve been given his marching orders but according to Hlungwani, referee Masixole Bambiso got his decision spot on because Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika had provided cover, and Miguel was not the last man.

“We’ll show you why yellow card was given,” ‘The Principal’ said on Soccerzone.

“There is what we call cover there. You can see there’s Kwinika there. So, Kwinika there ensure that the four considerations for DOGSO which is distance to goal, direction of play and the number and location of defenders.

“They are not successfully completed; hence he [referee Bambiso] gave a yellow card for SPA which is stopping a promising attack.

“So, yellow card, correct decision!

The second incident saw Bambiso award an early penalty to Chiefs, which was also a correct call from the man in the middle.

“When tripping happens inside the penalty area, a penalty will be awarded,” Hlungwani added.

“There’s the contact there. This is what the referee saw that’s why he awarded a penalty.

“So, correct decision by Masixole Bambiso!
