Gavin Hunt says it was a fantastic effort by Kaizer Chiefs to get the win in their CAF Champions League game on Sunday.
Speaking after Chiefs’ preliminary round first leg 1-0 win over PWD Baremba in Cameroon, Hunt says
Erick Mathoho scored late for Chiefs, before Itumeleng Khune rescued the win with a last minute penalty save.
“Under very trying circumstances, I thought it was an unbelievable result,” Hunt said after the game.
“The travel to get to this game was unbelievable, and everything around the game was very difficult, so it was a fantastic effort.”
“We could have made the game safer, we had a lot of good opportunities, but just couldn’t score, and I thought here we go again, but yah then we got the goal, and we knew straight away there were going to problems after that.”
“Luckily we scored the goal nice and late.”
And about the penalty, which was well saved by Khune:
“It should never have been a penalty, should it? That’s the problem. But I said to the players once we scored there’s going to be problems.”
“But yah, we got a little bit of just reward!”
