Hunt Says Just Beating Sundowns And Pirates Won’t Bring A Team Trophies

After beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership Kaizer Chiefs Head Coach Gavin Hunt has reiterated that if you want to win titles, you have to beat all teams, not just the so-called big teams.

In what has been a difficult season for the Amakhosi, the club has struggled to get consistent results, though did beat Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in recent league games.

Chiefs face Chippa United tomorrow in the league.

Responding to a question about Chiefs beating Sundowns and Pirates, but slipping up against other opponents, Hunt said that when he won leagues in the past, it was getting results against the other teams that got him over the line.

“It’s something that I always tell footballers, you don’t win leagues, you don’t win trophies playing against Sundowns and Pirates, you win trophies playing against everybody,” Hunt said after the victory over Sundowns.

“Because that’s how I’ve won it before. Everybody’s worried about those games, and always beat the teams at the bottom of the league, and then when you play the bigger teams, you can do what you like.”

“So it’s something that can only change with personnel and certain things.”
