Irritated Tinkler Comments On City Draw
Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler was not a happy man after their 2-2 draw against TS Galaxy in Mpumalanga on Saturday.
The Citizens dropped two points at Mbombela Stadium after Wayde Lekay netted in the 89th minute to equalise for the Rockets.
Mduduzi Mdantsande had given the Citizens a first-minute lead before Mxolisi Machupu equalised a minute later – but their talismanic midfielder put them ahead again after the hour mark before Lekay’s effort.
And Tinkler couldn’t contain his disappointment when opening up on the game post-match with SuperSport TV.
“Two stupid decisions by a player and you end up losing three points, really poor, dying minutes, it’s five minutes to go you make two errors,” an angry Tinkler said.
“The first error, maybe you can understand, but then you go sell yourself and allow them to equalize, this should have been an easy win for us today, so I’m extremely disappointed, a player with that caliber and that experience, you can’t make that mistake, you can’t be serious.
“I think we controlled the match to be brutally honest, we started like a house on fire. We got caught only where they could really hurt us, which were on the counter, which I explained at half-time that was disappointing the way we conceded the goal.
“Players need to realise that you can’t be saying sorry coach next week will be better; no, you have got to make sure that this week you do your job, and you do your job professionally.
“Today a player who came on didn’t do that, he costed for everybody, and you could see the disappointment that was on everybody’s face, so I’m extremely disappointed and angry because you can’t, not at this level, that is simply unacceptable.”
City travel to Soweto for their next league outing when they face Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on 4 December.
