Kaizer Chiefs legend Marks Maponyane has defended Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt who has come under scrutiny following recent high profile loses.
Hunt joined Amakhosi in September following the sale of his former club, Bidvest Wits to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila. There were high expectations as he joined the club due to the fact that Hunt has won four league titles and numerous trophies at his previous clubs.
The Glamour Boys have not had a good start to the season, having been dumped out of the MTN8 by their fierce rivals Orlando Pirates. Their league form after three matches has also not been consistent; a win, a loss and a draw. These results are further worsened by the fact that the club cannot sign new players due to their FIFA transfer ban.
Kaizer Chiefs’ highest-ever goalscorer, Maponyane, has pointed out that the poor results have not started now and that they have been there throughout the five-year trophy drought.
“It has nothing to do with the coach to be honest. How many times will we be talking coaches with the same Chiefs that has not won anything in close to six years? During those six seasons, how many coaches have they gone through? It’s not about the coach, and by the way it’s almost the same players.”
Amakhosi will continue their quest to break their trophy drought when they play in the CAF Champions League next month against PWD Bamenda.
